Once in a while, an idea really sticks. Applied Materials is a Silicon Valley giant, providing equipment, software, and services to the semiconductor, electronics, and solar energy industries. The Larsen creative team was charged with creating a theme and visual designs for the Applied booth at Semicon West, the biggest tradeshow of the year. I came up with “Think it. Apply it.” which seemed to encapsulate their position as an enabler of innovation for device manufacturers. The implied message: you dream it up, we make it real—with an obvious and intentional play on the company name. The line was so well received, the CEO incorporated it into his presentation at the show. Then the annual report. And not long after the company registered the line with the USPTO.
